What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a therapy which deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet relative to each and
every part of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way,
just like preventive medicine.

The origins of reflexology can be found in the ancient civilisations such as the Chinese, Indians and Egyptians.
There are many hieroglyphic drawings that appear to depict reflexology being performed.

Reflexology in the west is largely credited to Dr. William Fitzgerald and Eunice Ingham who, in the 1930's
developed the reflexologists 'map' of the foot that we work from today.

How Can Reflexology Help Me?

This treatment is suitable for anyone of any age with any problems. I have worked on babies of just a few
days old up to people in their nineties! It is usually helpful with most conditions - see my 'common problems'
section for some examples.

It is one of the most relaxing and stress relieving treatments that you can find and will certainly help you to get
a good night's sleep, which is a great start to aiding physical problems.

Reflexology can do you no harm in any way, it is simply a tool to help your body systems regain their natural
balance and help you beat the ailments that life throws at us!

It should be said that reflexology is a complimentary therapy. It should never be used as a substitute for
doctor's advice and medication, though many doctors now recommend its use in conjunction with their own
treatment.

What Happens During Treatment?

I am a mobile reflexologist which means that I visit you in your own home. This is in order for you to be as
relaxed and comfortable as possible, allowing you to rest immediately after the session is finished. You don't
need to supply anything as I bring a comfortable recliner for you to lay back in whilst I work. We start by
discussing your reasons for wanting reflexology and I will ask you a few questions about your health and diet.
All information that you give me is strictly confidential.

Using a little cream I will then massage both feet, paying particular attention to the areas that will most help
with any problems you may have. You may feel some discomfort when I find a spot that relates to an ailment.
This can feel as if I'm pressing on a bruise or can be a little sharper. The sensation is common and is a good
sign that the treatment will help. As we progress you will feel quite sleepy and relaxed, so it's important that
you allow an hour or so to rest after I leave.

Generally, I recommend more than one treatment as reflexology has a cumulative effect. Each person is very
individual and we will discuss how you wish to proceed after each treatment. I will offer advice but the
decision is always yours.

Common Problems

The list of complaints that I have dealt with is very diverse. Some examples are listed below.

Stress
Insomnia
Anxiety
Migraine Headaches
Back and neck pain or stiffness
Hormonal problems
Helping ladies to concieve
Helping to induce labour
Digestive problems
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Circulation problems
Boosting the immune system

As I have mentioned before, I treat each person on an individual basis. Everyone is different and needs to be
considered that way. We will always discuss my findings and your response to the treatments to determine
the best way to proceed for you.

Indian Head Massage

IHM is a direct massage on the muscles of the upper back, shoulders and neck, finishing with relaxation movements

on the scalp and face. Deep pressure can release tension from stressed muscles that most people suffer from during the course of their daily lives.

Poor posture, straining or bad positioning during sleep can lead to a build up of tightness in the muscles that is hard to relieve,

and can even give rise to uncomfortable tension headaches.

The direct pressure of IHM can relax these muscles and help circulation, leaving you with freedom of movement and able to sleep more comfortably.

What Happens During Treatment

As with reflexology, I bring everything to your home. You will sit in a comfortable chair and I work on the muscles whilst you simply

sit and relax. You do not need to remove any clothes, just wear something light that will enable me to apply pressure with my hands and thumbs.

The pressure I use is dictated by your condition and comfort level. I need to work fairly hard to achieve the desired effect but never

so that it is too uncomfortable for you. Again, each person is different and I will work within your comfort level.

Some people use IHM purely for relaxation purposes and I adapt the treatment to suit this, using much lighter pressures and adding more relaxation techniques,

especially on the scalp and face. We will always discuss your needs and adjust the massage accordingly.

You can have either treatment independently or have a combination of both IHM and reflexology in one session for total relaxation.
